Early clocks and clockwork globes

A rare gilt brass small stackfreed alarm clock and calendar, probably South German, c. 1580


11 ¾ in. [29.8 cm.] high.


The Clockwork Globe presented to the French Royal Academy of Sciences in 1727 by the Abbé Réginald Outhier (1694-1774)
of Besançon, signed and dated on the meridian ring,
“I. B. CATTIN M. DCC. XXVI.” by the clockmaker, Jean-Baptiste Cattin


An "Improved" Clockwork Globe by the Abbé Réginald Outhier (1694-1774) of Besançon, signed and dated on the meridian ring:
“INVENIT D. R. OUTHIER. FECIT JOAN. BAPT. CATTIN APUD SEQUANOS. PROBAVIT REGIA SCIENT. ACADEMIA PARIS. AN 1727"


37 cm (14.5 in.) high
the globe 16.5 (6.5 in.) cm diam.
