The waisted case veneered with finely figured satinwood within crossbanded borders, an inlaid patera below the beaded circular brass bezel enclosing a white enamel dial with roman chapters, delicately pierced blued steel hands, on a conforming wall bracket fitted with a key drawer, the circular twin chain fusee movement engraved with leafy scrolls and basket of flowers, with anchor escapement, spring suspended steel pendulum with rating nut in a stirrup on the rod, striking the hours on a bell.
John Grant (fl. 1781-1810) was apprenticed to and later became partner to his uncle, Alexander Cumming, one of London’s most respected 18th century clockmakers. London Directories list Grant at 75 Fleet Street 1786-1810. |
