Louis XV Neoclassical ormolu cartel with movement by Jacques-Charles Panier, Paris, circa 1765

A fine Louis XV Neoclassical ormolu cartel with movement by Jacques-Charles Panier, Paris, circa 1765

27 in [69 cm] H
13 in. [33 cm ] W

The finely chased, incurved case, modeled in the goût grec, rising from an acanthus calyx and shaped aperture below a white enamel dial flanked by female busts and leafy scrolls, surmounted by an urn draped with a laurel swag; the eight day movement with anchor escapement and later spring suspended pendulum.

Jacques-Charles Panier, maître 1743, belonged to the third generation of this family of Parisian clockmakers. A prolific maker, he is known to have used cases by Lieutaud, Vandernasse and de Saint-Germain.
